MeiraGTx is a biotech company focusing on gene therapy for ocular diseases. The name, Meira, is Hebrew for “light”. They were in need of a new logo and mark to give identity to their new product and to use when research is complete.
Preliminary Sketches
I went through a period of ideation where I listed things I related to the words light and vision. From here, I was able to sort out my ideas into symbols and shapes and make connections that would have been more abstract than beginning with only drawings.

Final Logo
The final logo uses an aperture opening to convey the iris and a star without being a literal eyeball. The 6 points of the star and the hexagon shape reference back to the Star of David since the brand name is based on the Hebrew language.
